Sunbed Safety & Responsible Use
UV exposure carries risks. TanBox supplies sunbeds for cosmetic tanning only, and we ask every customer to follow these guidelines.
Over-18s only. It is illegal in the UK under the Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010 for under-18s to use a sunbed. We will not hire to anyone under 18 and ask hirers not to allow under-18s to use the bed at any time.
Who should not use a sunbed
- Anyone under 18 years of age
- People with very fair skin that always burns and never tans (Skin Type 1)
- People with a history of skin cancer, or a family history of melanoma
- People with lots of moles, freckles or unusual skin marks
- Anyone taking medication that increases UV sensitivity (check with your GP)
- People who are pregnant — please speak to your GP first
- Children, and anyone unable to follow the safety instructions
Session limits
- Never exceed the maximum session time shown on the bed
- Always leave at least 24 hours between sessions
- Never tan twice in one day
- Stop sessions if your skin becomes red, sore or irritated
- The Sunbed Association recommends no more than 60 sessions per year
Every session
- Always wear the UV-rated goggles supplied — closing your eyes is not enough
- Remove make-up, perfume, deodorant and jewellery before tanning
- Use a sunbed-specific tan accelerator — never use sunscreen on a sunbed
- Keep the room cool and well-ventilated
- Stay hydrated
UV health information
Like sunlight, UV from sunbeds can increase the risk of skin cancer and premature skin ageing. We provide our beds for cosmetic tanning only and make no health claims. For independent guidance on UV exposure, visit the NHS sun safety advice page.
Our sunbeds are commercial-grade, fully maintained, professionally installed in your home and demonstrated by our team on delivery. If you're unsure about anything — call us before you tan.
See our session time guide for skin-type-specific timings, or contact us with any questions.
