Sunbed hire pricing is one of those things nobody publishes properly, so people assume it's expensive. It usually isn't. Here are our real 2026 prices, what's actually included, what it costs to run, and how it stacks up against paying a salon by the minute.

What it costs to run

This is the question we get asked most, and the answer surprises people. A home-use commercial sunbed draws roughly 3–4kW while the lamps are on. At around 25p per kWh, that's about 15p for a 10-minute session.

Tan three times a week and you're adding roughly £2 a month to your electricity bill. Even heavy use — every other day, longer sessions — rarely tops £4 a month. It's less than running a tumble dryer twice.

Hire vs salon: the real comparison

Midlands salons typically charge 50p–80p per minute. A realistic tanning routine — three 10-minute sessions a week — is 120 minutes a month, or £60–£95. Over a four-week hire period that's already close to the hire price, and it ignores the parts people forget:

– Petrol and parking for 12 round trips a month.
– Waiting for a free bed at peak times, or driving home again.
– Time. A 10-minute session becomes a 40-minute errand.
– Consistency. Most people quit a salon routine by week two — which is exactly when a base tan starts working.

Hidden costs to watch for elsewhere

Not every hire company quotes the same way. Before you book with anyone, check whether these are included or bolted on afterwards:

– Delivery and collection fees, often £30–£60 each way outside a small radius.
– Mileage or fuel supplements for anything beyond a city centre.
– Damage deposits of £100+ held against your card.
– Lamp-hour limits that cap how much you can actually use the bed.
– Goggles and lotion charged as extras on delivery day.

The £10 deposit simply holds your delivery dates and is deducted from the total balance when we install the bed. It isn't an extra charge and it isn't a damage bond.
